Any body use your soundcard for (gasp!) music?

Seems like several here like me are using their test rigs for more than sending the neighborhood hounds into full chorus with 5-watt outdoor sweeps. As much as I've bemoaned some bad experiences with hardware/software, to be fair I should add that once I got the cobs blown out, I've had a blast with it. I can;

Input any 2 LoZ/HiZ mic/instrument inputs directy via phone or XLR. Switchable phantom. Analog gain with real knobs for each. Clipping indicators.

Input another pair of lines from... anything really, via XLR/phone/phono, balanced/un, even down to mag phono levels, all at the same time.

Mix/record any 4 inputs with the free Kristal Audio Engine;

KRISTAL Audio Engine

Or, I can play 2 tracks and record 2 tracks at the same time, dub in, dub out, live monitor at 24/96. One-way streams to 192khz.

When I want a precision tune on the piano or guitar, Strobosoft does it, in any flavor I like (purchase);

Peterson Strobe Tuners - StroboSoft

Not to mention just listening to recordings... After trying most of the players around, I (blush) settled on WMP. Love the library UI. Other players have better this, better that, but overall I like it best. In particular, I love the MuseOn plugin (real-time chord display of whatever's playing);

MuseOn Information

I back my entire music collection to a USB flash drive. It's a cool feeling having several thousand tracks on a tiny lump in your pocket. :coffeedrinker:
"We're going all the way, till the wheels fall off and burn!"
Bob Dylan, from Brownsville Girl

"Time wounds all heels"
John Lennon, referring to the Nixon/Hoover deportation fiasco.

Well I do, but you probably think I'm cheating...

M-AUDIO - Delta 1010LT - 10-In/10-Out PCI Virtual Studio

Does quite a passable job live....

OTOH it's been a year or so, I don't get a lot done like I used too...

I've had that interface and the delta 66 too. It's mid fi but it is reliable and decent enough.
I'm into the higher end stuff now.
This interface is the s h I t.

RME: Fireface 800

The thing with a good interface is you understand how the music snaps to attention...
when the converters are done right. The digital handling with rme is second to none
and the reliability and dependability are just great. I really love that they developed their own FireWire interface rather than buy off the shelf like practically all other interfaces.

Once you've heard the difference it's impossible to go back...kinda like after your first altec system.

That's like a $1500 unit isn't it.

The RME is a nice unit.

I use the 1010 in an IBM converted to rack mount...sits in the bottom of my effects rack.

Honestly for just documenting performances it works quite well.
